Walnut and copper. Arguably, one of the best combinations in furniture. What are your thoughts? Maybe brass instead of copper? Either way, I think adding a touch of metal gives just the right amount of bling to a project. And soft metals like copper, brass and aluminum can be cut with your standard woodworking tools, so you don’t need any special equipment.

So, the big question is…do you prefer curved lines over angular or straight lines? Countless studies have been done on this topic for centuries and the research unequivocally shows that people prefer curvature over rectilinear shapes as they tend to be more beautiful and calming. Nice work! I’m interested in getting some brass or copper for decorative elements. Do you have an online place your source it from
I buy them right off of Amazon 👍🏻
In this video, you are using a white pencil to mark the walnut. What pencil it is this?
amzn.to/3XdCGmv And thanks for subscribing! 👍
It always makes me wonder why you guys don’t use metric measurements?
Because we grew up with imperial and know how to calculate fractions in our heads.
use Titebond dark for walnut or for any other piece that will be stained dark
No thanks.
not trying to be pushy, but I just wonder if you have had a problem with it that I don't know about. Have a blessed day!@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking
@@craigmckinney2219 i’ve used it many times in the past and it makes minimal difference
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking Thanks for replying. Food for thought. the best place to use it is on pine stined with a dark brown. Chou
Cost?, Profit?, Do you price this job to make a profit?, or are you relying on RUclips income to makeup for a underpriced job?
Yes.
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking And No, LOL!
I need shop cats...
Everyone does 😜😹
Great work! What band saw blade did you use for re-sawing? Thanks Matt
Thanks Matt! Not sure what I was using back then, but now I use the Accurite greenwood blade by Carter Products. It’s 5/8 wide .032 thickness and 3TPI.
I notice you didn't dampen the receiving piece when gluing up the lamination, which Gorilla glue requires. Was this because it was already damp from being soaked in the PVC pipe? I have also heard platic resing glue is used, but it seems to need hand mixing which concerns me because if you mix wrong it might be compromized. Any thoughts appreciated. Also, what you built is just amazing!
Correct - there was enough moisture in the wood already for the polyurethane glue to cure. It only needs a spritz. And I've never worked with the 2-part powdered urea glues like Unibond 800, but I have used epoxy which is a 2-part mix and it works great - much more open time.
Which epoxy would you recommend? I really want to maximize "open time". This is my first foray into bending wood and I want to minimize the stress.
Beautiful work as always Keith, I have a customer who would like a similar bench built, I have just purchased your plans for the built. Could you tell me how many board feet of Sapele you used, the plans only have the cut list not total board feet, Having total board feet would help me cost the job out. Thanks.
Hey Alan...I don't remember exactly as this was a number of years ago, but roughly 450 BF.
Thank for the quick reply Keith…. That’s going to leave a bruise in the budget 😮 😊
Puuuurfect 😹
😜😹
if you sprinkle salt in the glue, it will keep it from sliding around during glue up, the salt wont make any gaps, it melts and crushes
No, that doesn’t work. It also gels up the glue.
Tallahassee would shun you forever for your Twinkies comment!
Keith, I enjoyed this video very much sir. One of your best! What is the reasoning for the L fence? Better stability?
Thanks Jamie! Track saw can be unreliable at times and I've never built a dedicated miter sled because I don't do them very often, so the L-fence is a great alternative.
Thank you sir!
I couldn't tell... Why did you need the angled tenons?
The rails were angled
It's no wonder white oak is so expensive. RUclips videos have inspired many thousands more woodworkers.
Woodworkers don't even make the tiniest dent in white oak consumption.
Good to know. Thanks.
Do you think a summary of lessons learned/what you would do differently at the end would be helpful?
Maybe if people watched all the way to the end 😜
In Europe, worms are such a problem that it's being sold as a feature.
Worm holes can look cool! 😎
There are some red flashes before glueing montage, great video. I wonder too why the legs didn't come out straight.
Geometry was never my strong suit 🤓😂
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking maybe, but you are a great woodworker! Can't wait to start buying the tools and actually do some furniture.
WOW!!! Just wow
Thank you very much!
Keith, wow man...wow! That table is something special for sure. Amazing artistry 👍
Wow! Thanks so much for the kind words!
How much does something like this cost?
Sorry, but I don't give out prices in YT comments due to a multitude of factors that make every custom job unique in its pricing. If you are interested in a custom piece of furniture of your own, please email me at keithjohnsoncustomwoodworking@gmail.com to discuss your project in further detail 👍.
Beautiful work. A few very useful tips as well 👍
Thank you! Glad to hear you enjoyed it. Cheers!
Just my 2 cents, you have 2 monitors meet in the center. Either get e huge ass monitor or center one and offset the second.
As usual awesome build and awesome video.
Thanks Michael! Much appreciated 👊
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼You demonstrate your projects so easy to build. But it is NOT easy at all to achieve this much precision.
Thanks so much! 🙏🏻🙌🏻
I love overbuilds. It's how it was supposed to be done.
😂 Right on!! 💪🏻 💪🏻
You guys do great work. Looks like your face frames are perfectly flush with the shelves using your biscuit method.
Thanks very much!
Amazing work as always Keith! Btw I can definitely tell the difference between this video and older ones shot on an iPhone. Looks so good here. If you are still on the fence about doing more videos this way my vote is that the new camera stays lol.
Thanks for feedback, Elijah! Forthcoming videos will be higher quality, so stay tuned! 😎
Okay, I have to ask. How the hell do you tell the difference between Lola and Jerry!?! Love that they hang around the shop. Wish my cats did the same.
Lola has a Spanish accent 😹
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking 🤣🤣🤣 Good one!
Lola is the supervisor. We have a grey cat, Gracie, who is also my supervisor during my in house projects.

Thanks man! It was relatively smooth...😜😂
Did I miss the “TOTAL BOAT BABY!” I was actually looking forward to that, which is kinda weird. I really enjoy your content!!!
😂 Unfortunately, this video came out right before "TotalBoat BABY!" became a worldwide phenomenon 😜
I remember when Chuck kicked me, just for NOT having a spare. It still hurts on cold days.
Ouch. But I'll bet you were never got without a spare again...😂
"Nicey Nice and Matchy Match" - this should be part of the woodworking lexicon
😂🤣 It’s the working title of upcoming book…
Love the look of copper with walnut! Q: How do you keep the copper from tarnishing? I've heard a coat of shellac can do it, but seems like it would wear off pretty quickly on a drawer pull.
Unfortunately, if it’s something that will be constant exposed to the oils on your fingers, the pulls will tarnish over time, which I kind of like. You could spray it before install with a lacquer, which may protect it longer. You can keep them looking fresh using sunshine polishing cloths.
Love your channel. What type of jointer are you using?
Thanks! Hammer A3-31
nice work, to bad there was no finish shot of the copper (epoxy + powder) after sanding
sorry about that!
i saw that 12:57 on the stove clock lol.
Busted 😂
Great project, good tips! Beautiful finished product, too. Please tell Jerry & Lola I say “hi!”
Thanks Robert! Will do 😺😺
You're a great talent Keith. Craftsmanship and entertainment along with inspiring guys like me to build something better. Thanks. Now I have a question, do you prefer Rubio Monocoat Walnut or Pure on Walnut?
Thanks so much for the kind words! I prefer Walnut instead of Pure. The Pure is too yellow and golden.
Another excellent build. I just love your videos
Thank you, Peter! You’re very kind 🙏🏻👍🏻
brass and walnut look better than copper
I’ll mark your vote down in the brass & walnut column. 😜😂
I convinced my kids to let me watch this instead of minecraft videos by having them spot the shop cats every time they're on screen. Pretty epic shot at around 25 minutes of maybe Lola? crossing the garage door.
haha! Yes! Good eye. She was on her way up to her 2nd floor loft 😹. I'll try to include as much Jerry and Lola as possible to keep your kids interested!
My metric brain just exploded after all those quarter, eighth inch, ace. But the result and the work itself is stunning!
